For zebracake267's fic challenge. Requirements:

Fandom: Smallville
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Based on/set in: One of the official Smallville novels, 'City', which is unbelievably slashy. Hee.

Characters belong to DC and WB, no infringement intended etc. Rated PG-13 for one use of bad language. Having read 'City' would help, but isn't absolutely necessary.

Very short.

"Lex, are you all right son?"

The fact that his father actually seemed concerned about him was enough for Lex to lose the smile he hadn't even realised he'd been wearing. Sitting in a chair on the other side of his father's desk in the Metropolis HQ of Luthorcorp, Lex frowned. He could have said something sarcastic such as, "Are you actually *worried* about me dad?" or "Don't worry, I still have all my fingers intact," and then wiggled his pinky just for effect.

Perhaps not.

Besides, he was in a good mood - sharing the same office with his father for the last four hours notwithstanding. He could be nice. Really. "Sorry dad?"

Turning the latest page of whatever document he was going over now, his father regarded him seriously. "You were...smiling. As if you were...happy."

Ah yes. Luthor Commandment #3. Thou shall not express happiness unless thou has just closed a multi-million dollar deal, or thou art mocking someone.

Though his father did have a point. He *had* been smiling. At some point his mind had started wandering, and being in Metropolis had reminded him of his recent visit there with Clark. As was typical around Clark a great many mysterious things had happened, but the most memorable part of the entire thing had to be the moment it was revealed that the 'mystery date' Lex had set a terrified Clark up on was with none other than Lana Lang.

Naturally, Lex had captured his friends reaction on polaroid. There was simply no other choice - he *had* to, and it was just as well that he had because even just looking at the picture since (which was now folded up in his wallet) always brought a smile to his face. Or even just thinking about it.

Like just a few moments ago.

The fact of the matter was, despite the internal sarcasm directed at his father, Lex was only really happy these days when Clark was around - and didn't that sound pathetic? Whether it was when he arrived at the Kent farm with some half made up excuse or when Clark turned up at the castle with no excuse at all, it didn't matter. Just as long as he got to see and spend time with...

The revelation seemed to spread throughout his entire body, from head to toe, and Lex sat there, aghast, as the truth of it finally sunk into his brain.

He was so fucked.

Hopefully.

"Lex?" Movement. Lionel was leaning forward now. That displayed a huge level of concern. Should he be celebrating or something? "Seriously son...do you need anything?"

Only one thing came to mind.

"A lawyer."
